오직 예수안에서

오늘은 종려주일 입니다. 종려주일이란 예수님께서 십자가에 달리시기 전 예루살렘에 입성하신 것을 기념하는 날로 부활절 일주일 전 주일, 즉 고난주간의 시작을 알리는 날입니다.

예수님께서 나귀를 타고 예루살렘에 입성하셨습니다. 당시 유대 백성들은 예수님을 메시아로 환영하며 길에 종려나무 가지를 깔고 외쳤습니다. “호산나! 주의 이름으로 오시는 이여! 이스라엘의 왕이여!” (요 12:13). 

예수님은 화려한 전차나 군마가 아닌 나귀를 타심으로써 세속적 권세가 아닌 겸손한 평화의 왕으로 자신을 드러내셨습니다(슥 9:9).

이를 통해 우리는 세상이 추구하는 성공이나 힘이 아니라 예수님처럼 겸손과 섬김의 자세로 살아가야 할 것을 되새길 수 있습니다. 이를 위해 자기의 뜻보다 하나님의 뜻에 순종하는 훈련이 필요합니다.

예수님의 예루살렘 입성을 환영하며 ‘호산나’를 외쳤던 군중들 중 일부는, 며칠 뒤 ‘그를 십자가에 못 박으라’고 외쳤습니다. 이 모습을 통해 우리는 신앙 고백이 일시적인 감정의 표현에 머물러 선 안 되며 고난과 희생의 자리에서도 예수님을 따르기를 주저하지 않는 참된 제자의 삶이 되어야 함을 되새기게 됩니다.

Today is Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem before His crucifixion. It falls on the Sunday one week before Easter, marking the beginning of Holy Week.

Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey. At that time, the Jewish people welcomed Him as the Messiah, spreading palm branches on the road and shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The King of Israel!"(John 12:13).

By riding on a donkey instead of a grand chariot or warhorse, Jesus revealed Himself not as a worldly conqueror but as a humble King of peace (Zechariah 9:9).

This reminds us that we should not pursue worldly success or power but instead live with the humility and attitude of service that Jesus exemplified. We must train ourselves to obey God’s will above our own.

Among the crowd that welcomed Jesus shouting “Hosanna,” some later cried out, “Crucify Him.” This challenges us to reflect on whether our faith is merely an emotional response or a genuine life of discipleship that follows Jesus even in times of suffering and sacrifice.
